Announces Exam Administrations at USITT 2007
The ETCP Council is
pleased to announce the electrical, arena rigging, and theatre rigging
examinations will be offered at the USITT Conference and Stage Expo on March
17, 2007 in Phoenix, AZ. Those who pass these rigorous tests will become ETCP
Certified - and will be recognized as the industry’s best. Employers have
already begun seeing the benefits of ETCP Certification in reduced insurance
rates as well as attaining more work because their services are being
performed by certified personnel.
If you would like to take the arena rigging,
theatre rigging, or electrical examination at USITT, please submit your
completed application, including all supporting documents and fee, postmarked
on or before February 1, 2007.
As always, if you would like more information
or would like eligibility requirements or applications sent to you, please
contact Katie Geraghty, ETCP Certification Director,
at certification@esta.org or
212-244-1505. Complete information is also available on the ETCP website: http://etcp.esta.org.
If you are unable to attend USITT, you can
apply to take an examination at a testing center near you. The arena rigging
and theatre rigging examinations are now offered at over 150 testing centers
in the U.S. and Canada on most business days. The electrical exam will also
be available at these centers beginning February 15, 2007. For these exams,
information will be sent on how to schedule the examination after the
candidate is accepted by ETCP.
The electrical certifications are designed for
highly experienced electricians (including leads, supervisors, and managers
of entertainment electrical work). The rigging certifications are designed
for highly experienced riggers (rigging supervisors, high steel riggers,
fly-persons, etc).

through the exclusive use of the ETCP Certified Rigger logo on their business
card or website, or by the special lapel pin, embroidered patch, or workbox

Professional Conduct to advance the integrity, honor and prestige of this
profession by adherence to the standards set forth.
The ETCP
rigging certifications are designed for highly experienced riggers including

The Entertainment Technician Certification Program
Council announced the appointment of Rigging Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). These individuals, all highly respected in their
field, have agreed to volunteer considerable time to the development of the
industry’s first rigging certifications. Selected for their breadth and depth
of knowledge, the SMEs will work closely with the Council’s
selected psychometric services provider, Applied Measurement Professionals
(AMP), to develop the examinations.
The SMEs are: Roy Bickel,
John Bleich, Eddie Blue, David Boevers,
Olan Cottrill, James
Doherty, Harry Donovan, Kelly Green, Glenn Hufford,
Edward Kish, Stephane Mayrand,
Joseph McGeough, Brian Miller, Walter Murphy, Rocky
Paulson, G. Anthony Phillips, Eddie Raymond, Michael Reed, Bill Sapsis, Peter Scheu,
Karen Seifried, Scott Sloan, Sammy Stokes, and Jack
Suesse.
The SMEs’ first task was
to develop a job task analysis survey which was sent to over 600 riggers in
the US and Canada. The results of this survey are used to determine the
content areas of the examination. The next step in the test development
process is writing the examination questions, which will take place over a
series of meetings to be held through the first half of 2005.
The first ETCP rigging examinations (arena and
theatre) will be held in November 2005 in conjunction with the ETS-LDI
tradeshow. Candidate information (including eligibility requirements and
application forms) will be available on the ETCP website (www.etcp.esta.org) in late March 2005. The first
ETCP rigging certifications will be designed for highly experienced riggers
(rigging supervisors, high steel riggers, etc).
If you would like the examination information and
application forms mailed or emailed to you, please contact Katie Geraghty, ETCP Certification Director, at 212-244-1505 or
kgeraghty@esta.org with your contact
information.
