ETCP Announces Exam Administrations at USITT 2007

The ETCP Council is pleased to announce the electrical, arena rigging, and theatre rigging examinations will be offered at the USITT Conference and Stage Expo on March 17, 2007 in Phoenix, AZ. Those who pass these rigorous tests will become ETCP Certified - and will be recognized as the industry’s best. Employers have already begun seeing the benefits of ETCP Certification in reduced insurance rates as well as attaining more work because their services are being performed by certified personnel.

If you would like to take the arena rigging, theatre rigging, or electrical examination at USITT, please submit your completed application, including all supporting documents and fee, postmarked on or before February 1, 2007.

As always, if you would like more information or would like eligibility requirements or applications sent to you, please contact Katie Geraghty, ETCP Certification Director, at certification@esta.org or 212-244-1505. Complete information is also available on the ETCP website: http://etcp.esta.org.

If you are unable to attend USITT, you can apply to take an examination at a testing center near you. The arena rigging and theatre rigging examinations are now offered at over 150 testing centers in the U.S. and Canada on most business days. The electrical exam will also be available at these centers beginning February 15, 2007. For these exams, information will be sent on how to schedule the examination after the candidate is accepted by ETCP.

The electrical certifications are designed for highly experienced electricians (including leads, supervisors, and managers of entertainment electrical work). The rigging certifications are designed for highly experienced riggers (rigging supervisors, high steel riggers, fly-persons, etc).

ETCP CERTIFIED RIGGERS ARE HERE!

January 16, 2006

The Entertainment Technician Certification Program Council is proud to announce the first ETCP Certified Arena and Theatre Riggers! These individuals have passed the rigorous, competency-based examinations in arena and/or theatre rigging which took place in November 2005. Congratulations to the riggers who have made this important professional commitment to safely serve the entertainment industry by becoming ETCP Certified.

These riggers, the “Class of 2005”, are listed on the ETCP website at etcp.esta.org. There are 97 ETCP Certified Arena Riggers and 111 ETCP Certified Theatre Riggers (45 individuals actually hold both certifications). They can be identified on the jobsite by requesting to see their ETCP ID card that includes their picture, date of certification and, most importantly, area(s) of specialty. You’ll also be able to spot them through the exclusive use of the ETCP Certified Rigger logo on their business card or website, or by the special lapel pin, embroidered patch, or workbox sticker.

If you are looking to hire a competent rigger who is dedicated to safety on the job, view the list of Certified Riggers on the ETCP website. Not only did these riggers pass this thorough assessment, they also signed an agreement to abide by the ETCP Certified Entertainment Technician Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct to advance the integrity, honor and prestige of this profession by adherence to the standards set forth.

The ETCP rigging certifications are designed for highly experienced riggers including rigging supervisors and high steel riggers. All interested riggers are invited to join the new ETCP Certified Riggers in gaining certification by applying today. Administrations of the rigging examinations will be held at computer centers across the U.S. beginning March 15, 2006. The sooner your application is submitted, the sooner you can take the test to become ETCP Certified.

Candidate information, including eligibility requirements and application forms, are available online (etcp.esta.org/candidateinfo/riggingexams.html). February 3, 2005

The Entertainment Technician Certification Program Council announced the appointment of Rigging Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). These individuals, all highly respected in their field, have agreed to volunteer considerable time to the development of the industry’s first rigging certifications. Selected for their breadth and depth of knowledge, the SMEs will work closely with the Council’s selected psychometric services provider, Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP), to develop the examinations.

The SMEs are: Roy Bickel, John Bleich, Eddie Blue, David Boevers, Olan Cottrill, James Doherty, Harry Donovan, Kelly Green, Glenn Hufford, Edward Kish, Stephane Mayrand, Joseph McGeough, Brian Miller, Walter Murphy, Rocky Paulson, G. Anthony Phillips, Eddie Raymond, Michael Reed, Bill Sapsis, Peter Scheu, Karen Seifried, Scott Sloan, Sammy Stokes, and Jack Suesse.

The SMEs’ first task was to develop a job task analysis survey which was sent to over 600 riggers in the US and Canada. The results of this survey are used to determine the content areas of the examination. The next step in the test development process is writing the examination questions, which will take place over a series of meetings to be held through the first half of 2005.

The first ETCP rigging examinations (arena and theatre) will be held in November 2005 in conjunction with the ETS-LDI tradeshow. Candidate information (including eligibility requirements and application forms) will be available on the ETCP website (www.etcp.esta.org) in late March 2005. The first ETCP rigging certifications will be designed for highly experienced riggers (rigging supervisors, high steel riggers, etc).

If you would like the examination information and application forms mailed or emailed to you, please contact Katie Geraghty, ETCP Certification Director, at 212-244-1505 or kgeraghty@esta.org with your contact information.
